Secret meetings have commenced between the Abdulaziz Yari led (perceived faction) of the APC in Zamfara and the Gov. Matawalle’s deputy governor, Mahadi Ali Gusau towards the possibility of the self imposed faction to defect to the PDP in Zamfara.
The Yari supporters in the APC have refused to come out of the dream that the APC in Zamfara has since moved on after the defection of Gov. Matawalle from the PDP to the APC on June 29, at a ceremony attended by over ten serving governors, serving and former governors, national and state assembly members and many top notchers of the APC which held in Gusau.
Yari side’s greatest undoing is their refusal to abide by the party’s constitution which gives leadership of the party in a state to the highest political office holder, the case of Zamfara having shifted the position from Yari as former governor, to Matawalle as an incumbent just as the President is the party’s leader at the national level.
Although the national leadership of the party under the stewardship of Yobe governor Mai Mala Buni has set in motion a machanism to sit with all aggrived members of the party in the state to broker peace, the Yari followers have refused to see anything good in the attempt.
Having refused to respect the constitution or sit and discuss amicable ways therefore, the Yari followers who have always said they believed in God, have exposed their power mongering by starting to beg for the PDP in the state to open its doors for them through the use of the deputy governor.
According to a credible source, the secret meeting was held at the Deputy Governor’s residence in Gusau under a special request by the former governor, Abdulaziz Yari who sent Lawali M Liman and some of his loyalists to attend and come up with more strategies that will ease their path to join the PDP
The insider further said that the meeting was a continuation of the Yari camp that was earlier held last week at the residence of Senator Tijjani Yahaya Kaura in Gwarimpa, Abuja where it was agreed to look for other options, in case the APC national leadership does not recognise Abdulaziz as the leader of the party in Zamfara State
During the meeting, it was said that some of his camp members told him that it will not be possible for the National headquarters of the APC to violate the party constitution and recognise Yari as the leader of the party but advised him to accept and be loyal or that they should change to another party that will accommodate them.
Similarly on the other hand, the deputy governor, Mahdi who now lives in solace and under the shadows of his father, Ali Gusau having been abandoned by the large crowd of PDP members, big and small that pulled out into the APC along with Matawalle is like a drowning man calling for help.
As the situation unfolds and with many of the APC bigwigs still supporting and counting on the Matawalle leadership, it will be a political suicide for the Yari’s to part ways with the party they so claimed to have formed.
For Gov. Matawalle however, it is a happy return home, because he was also part of those that started the APC from its initial, APP.
