Zamfara: Matawalle’s Ex-Caretaker Councillors Distance Themselves from Defection Rumours

The Ex-Local Government Caretaker Councillors Forum in Zamfara State has distanced itself from reports alleging that former caretaker councillors who served under former Governor Bello Mohammed Matawalle have defected from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

The forum, whose members served during the administration of Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle, who is now the Honourable Minister of Defence, said the reports were misleading and did not represent the position of the group.

In a statement signed by the forum’s Secretary, Honourable Kabiru Ibrahim Gishiri Maradun, the group clarified that the former local government councillors reported to have defected to the ADC are political loyalists of Distinguished Senator Abdul Aziz Yari, Director-General of the Tinubu/Shettima campaign, and are not loyalists of the Honourable Minister of Defence, Dr. Bello Mohammed Matawalle.

Speaking at an emergency press briefing held on Tuesday in Gusau, the Zamfara State capital, the forum’s Chairman, Honourable Shitu Abdullahi (Malancy) Shinkafi, dismissed the reports and described them as unfounded.

Shinkafi assured the public, particularly members of the APC family in Zamfara State, that councillors who served under former Governor Matawalle remain loyal to the party and committed to its political objectives.

He said the members of the forum remain focused on mobilising support for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Governor Dauda Lawal, and APC candidates across the 14 local government areas of Zamfara State.

The forum urged members of the public and the APC faithful to disregard reports suggesting that its members had collectively defected from the ruling party.
