Zamfara Govt Inherits Over N50 Billion Debt From Previous Administrations – Attorney General.


Commissioner for Justice and Attorney General, Barrister Junaidu Aminu Kaura has declared that, the state is battling with court cases on various debts accruing to over N50 billion naira.


The Attorney General made the declaration on his assumption of office.



 

He  said, “it’s unfortunate that, the state does not have any alternative source of funds apart from monthly cash allocation from Abuja”.



 

Barrister Junaidu said the debt was largely inherited from the previous governments, adding that, “Because government is a continuous process, the present governor has to find a way of settling the debt and move on with the management of the state”.


According to him, two years back Zamfara state government has allowed for auctioning of its assets worth over one billion naira for a debt of just sixty million naira which was supposed to be settled, but government of that time failed to take things seriously as they should be.


He lamented that, if the previous governments have taken the issue of debt repayment seriously they should have settled the debtors out of court.


He  explained that, despite the intervention of some prominent persons in the state the immediate past administration for reasons best known to it refused to take the appropriate steps of paying off the debt.


Meanwhile: in his efforts to bring cordial relationship between people and legal practitioners, the commissioner said he would establish units for assistaning  the less previllaged persons willing to study law.



 



The commissioner solicited the support from the staff of the ministry in order to tackle challenges which included fake and fraudulently awarded contracts by past administrations.


 In his welcome address earlier the Director civil litigation D C L in the ministry Barrister Surajo Abdullahi congratulated the newly commissioner and assured him of all necessary support and co-operation from the staff of the ministry in order to enable him achieve the desire gold..


In their separated goodwill messages the Emir of Kaura-namoda, Major Sanusi Muhammad Ahmad, (retired) represented by district head of Kaura-namoda East Alhaji Ahmad Asha Durumbun Kaura and APC chieftain and elder statement,  Malam Bello Na mallam Babba Kaura thanked the state Governor, Bello Matawalle for appointing one of their sons to serve in his cabinet Commissioner for Justice.
